Eastern Healing Meets Western Luxury

November 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Reading about a medical treatment does not make one an expert or we could all be healers.  There are many years of experience and learning that goes into mastering a particular healing modality.  This is especially true of the ancient practice of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is a healing practice that has existed in India for thousands of years.  It is a practice that not only seeks to balance the body, but also includes balancing the mind and spirit as well.  This is done through diet, herbs, and medication practices.  Exercise techniques, such as form of Asanas, a type of yoga exercise, connect the three areas that need to be in balance. Unless you live in India or some other part of the world that has an Ayurvedic clinic, getting this specialized type of healing is impossible.  That is until now.  With the growing trend of medical tourism, the ability to get treatments has become not only possible, but it is very affordable. Ayurveda Canarias Health Center in Spain offers Ayurvedic treatments that take care of both goals.  First, the Ayurvedic doctors’ can treat many kinds of chronic and acute disorders.  They spend the time to assess each patient individually.  They decide what specific treatments are needed to bring the patient back into harmony with themselves and their environment.

Tamarindo Club Ayurvedic Spa is a luxury resort in the subtropical paradise of Fuerteventura.  Located next to the natural park “The dunes of Corralejo”.  No matter where you are in the spa you can enjoy breath taking views of Mother Nature.  To give the full experience of Indian Ayurveda, the resort was built in a style inspired by Indian architecture.  It boasts terraced lawns and pools with rich interiors that take you back to an era of Indian Emperors and Princes.

Hip Resurfacing Surgery in India – How to Cut the Costs in One Fourth… By Alampallam Venkatachalam

November 19, 2007 · 3 Comments

Hip replacements are in great demand amongst America’ s Baby boomers afflicted by Osteoarthrits. A total hip replacement is the ideal operation for these people in their seventies and eighties. In India however the majority of patients afflicted by hip arthritis are young. Ankylosing spondylitis, avascular necrosis, post traumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis are conditions affecting young patients in their thirities. Hip resurfacing or Proxima hip replacements are the ideal operation for these young patients as they preserve bone, last longer and cause less pain.

What are the types of Hip replacement?

The traditional total hip replacement has been around for nearly 40 years and provides great benefits to the elderly afflicted by osteoarthritis of the hip. In this a metal stem is implanted in the upper end of the thigh bone and a socket made of polyethylene is cemented into the acetabulum. Wear particles are liberated and these lead to aseptic loosening in fifteen years. Bone loss occurs and a revision surgery may be needed after the time of the prosthesis runs out

A Surface hip replacement resurfaces only the top of the hemispherical head of the femur. It is a bone conservirg surgery. It has been in the market for nearly 5 years

A latest type of hip prostheis has been introduced in India called the Proxima hip. It consists of a large diameter metal head and cup. It resembles a total hip with the distal or long stem like portion cut away and the prosthesis is implanted only in the proximal part of the femur or thigh bone( Hence the name Proxima). It has a ten year follow up in the hands of the designer Orthopaedic surgeon from Italy.

Millions of People Can Not be Wrong. Find out why they are living Longer and More Healthy.

Ayurveda is an Indian medical science that was created over 5000 years ago.  The documents that were created related to Ayurveda are from the Vedas.  The Vedas contain information on a many different subjects such as philosophy, logic, engineering, agriculture, economics and politics, and many other subjects.  In the Vedic philosophy of health, there is the principle of natural balance within the body and harmony with the environment.  People are a part of the environment not separate from it.  The goal of this practice is to obtain and maintain balance within the body and mind, while living in harmony with nature.  This is the pathway to true health.  So is this ancient practice for the fortunate few?  Maintaining your health is based on nothing more complex than understanding the characteristics of your body and qualities of the food you eat.  The word Ayurveda is derived from two words, Ayus and Veda.  Understanding the meaning of both words is necessary to fully grasp the philosophy of this discipline.  The English translation of ayus is “life”.  Veda is a Sanskrit word which means “knowledge” or “science”.  Although Vedic knowledge originated in India, it does not mean this information is of relevance only to Indians.  Knowledge is the universal asset of mankind — it is not the property of one region.  The great news is that you can go to India and receive Vedic treatments from the source.  It costs much less than you think and your insurance may even help pay for it.

First, let us look more at the actual practice of Ayurveda.  The two aims of Ayurveda are to maintain the health of those who are well and the other is to cure diseases of those who are sick.  This aspect relates to various diseases, their causes, diagnosis, remedies and therapies to cure and prevent relapses of illness.

Medical Tourism, Is it Safe?

November 9, 2007 · 1 Comment

Suppose you have decided that you want to get a plastic surgery done overseas.  It will cost less and you can get the procedure done quickly.  There is no waiting period at many of the facilities that you have seen online.  How can you be sure that they are safe?  How do you know whether the doctors have the proper credentials in plastic surgery?

You have to make decisions about a major surgical procedure at a place you have never seen nor visited.  Will it be clean?  Will it have the necessary equipment that is working?  Do they use latest state of the art technologies? One way you can be assured that they are a safe healthcare facility with the kind of care you would demand from your general practitioner down the street is to research whether or not they are JCI accredited.  What is JCI?  JCI stands for Joint Commission International.  JCI Accreditation is considered as the gold standard for international medical facility credentialing.  In the United States the Joint Commission has raised the standard in medical organizations and when they accredit a healthcare facility you can be rest assured that they are one of the top hospitals in the United States.

The JCI has this same level of standard and reputation overseas.  They evaluate a facility and decide what they need to improve.  They do not give their seal of approval unless that particular facility has met the standard of care set out by the commission.  If you see the JCI seal of approval on an overseas facility you can rest assured that it is a safe and well run facility.

Hospitals are a place to get healthy, not sick!

November 5, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A gentleman from Britain that recently had a leg injury while skiing in France, instead of going to the local hospital, he went on the internet.  He found a place in Norway that provided the treatment he needed.  He booked his flight and off he went.

Why did he choose to travel rather than get treatment locally?  He is like many people from Britain, Canada, and the United States that are becoming medical tourists.  In the British man’s case, he wanted to go to Norway in order to avoid a growing concern over a very contagious germ called MRSA that plagues many hospitals in Britain and other countries.  There are over 5,000 deaths in hospitals a year in Britain caused by infections people contracted while staying in a hospital.  Norway has the lowest percentage of MRSA infections in Europe and has become a destination for those looking for quality and safe healthcare practices.

Today, over 1.3 million medical tourists are seeking low-cost, high quality healthcare options in top tourist destinations around the world.  Europeans are increasingly selecting Scandinavian countries such as Norway which offer serene environment and like culture.

One of the other concerns that this British man had was that he was going to have to wait four weeks for a consultation with a specialist in Britain.  Upon contacting Scanhealth Scandinavia, he was able to book his trip in a couple of days, see a specialist, and have the surgery that same day.

Another woman from Wales needed an MRI and was told she would have to wait 18 months.  She contacted Scanhealth Scandinavia and was able to go immediately to Norway to get the same procedure.  They promised that they would do the surgery, if needed, the same day.  She fortunately did not need surgery for her shoulder.  The price tag?  It would have cost 325 pounds for the procedure would have had to wait for over a year to receive.  Her trip to Norway including the procedure was only 500 pounds.  One of the benefits for her was that Norway was so much like Wales that it was like being home.

This same testimonial is echoed by a couple that are receiving fertility treatments in Norway for less than they would in Britain.  They stated that it was nice to get treatment right away, for less money, and it was comforting that they were being treated by people who spoke English as they did.

The testimonials about the wonderful care and comfort people found in Scandinavia are overwhelming.  If you are interested in getting medical care, you have been waiting for months to receive and get them for fraction of the cost, then log on to Placidway.com today.  PlacidWay presents you global healthcare possibilities that are comprehensive, economical, world-class, and without borders.  PlacidWay is your one stop for all of your medical tourism needs.

Ayurvedic Perspective on Stress – Dr. Partap Chauhan, Director of Jiva Ayurveda

November 1, 2007 · 1 Comment

In general, stress is caused by over stimulation. Life without stimulus would be very dull and boring. We seek fun, enjoyment, fulfillment of desires, and choose to do pleasurable things such as watching television or going to a disco. Stimulation, up to a certain extent, is necessary for keeping a person healthy. However, too much stimulus may ultimately damage your health and well-being. Therefore, it is necessary to strike a balance.

Ayurveda describes how the optimal use of things – amount of food, sleep, sex indulgence, etc. – helps to maintain the required equilibrium with respect to mind, body, and soul.

Every individual has three types of basic energies or biological humors, which are referred to as “doshas“. They are vata, pitta, and kapha. According to Ayurveda, stress is a state of imbalance, in which the normal flow of these energies in the body (tridoshas) is disrupted. More…
